As a first year, I go to my training provider, IPS international, 5 days a week to undergo workshop units such as Electronics and many more, and a BTEC day every Tuesday. In my half terms I go back to site and have some on the job experience by accompanying other engineers on their jobs/tasks.
I have learnt and developed a plethora of skills regarding engineering, such as mathematical skills, teamwork building, knowledge on electrical/electronic application and hand work skills. An example being how to wire in components and wires in regulation standards.
I enjoy my programme a lot so far. I enjoy fault finding and fixing the issues to allow my circuits to perform as required. Its satisfying and rewarding to see all the hard work and knowledge being applied, work. For example, I had created a circuit, and in the end it worked.
My programme is well organised, the workshop programmes are structured in a great way, and my BTEC lessons can help me within the workshop lessons. My programme is well structured for the future of my apprenticeship.
I receive a great amount of support from my employer and frequently stay in contact with them. They check up on me, and see how my training is going at my training provider, sometimes making a visit to come into the training site.
At my training provider support is heavily provided, the trainers/tutors are helpful and willing to guide us in the right direction if need be.
My qualification through my training provider helps me perform better at my role, this is because i am being taught what specific skills, knowledge and how to apply it in my role.
Yes, I believe there is, I've never personally joined them, however I have received emails in regards to extra-curricular activities such as rugby (etc).
Yes
SSE provides a great apprentice opportunity, with so much support from everyone. Everyone I've spoken to has been friendly and welcoming. In regards to employee benefits, there is a variety of them, and the salary is fair.
Be yourself, enjoy the learning and take every opportunity when you can. Work/training can be challenging but very rewarding in the end!
