I work in a medium sized food store, which focuses on organic, fair trade and ethically sourced products, and my day to day work involves helping customers with finding items or assisting shoppers and colleagues in whatever way i can, but through my apprenticeship course I am currently training to specialise as a in store butcher.
Ive learned more technical skills related to butchery and broader interpersonl skills focused on customer service, as well as more ways I can be aware of my role in ensuring that those in store are safe, as my course work has highlighted several areas in which i can provide assistance to others by being aware of risks of endangerment and safety.
I very much enjoyed the course as it allowed me to build upon areas of my work and develop more skills that i can use as well as improving my general knoledge of the subjects we covered. More specifically my butchery course has taught me more technical naming conventions or retail portions, serving sugesstions and even advise for customers on cooking methods.
I would say that despite the more casual nature of my course and the work there in, I would say it is quite well organised overall as in the few times there has been an issue or delay, work arounds, compramises, substitutes and flexable planning have all been used to provide a seemless learning experiance.
I have found that my employer, be it my direct manager or in store supervisor, have been very supportive and have often expressed thier enthusiasim of both my participation of my professional development and the availability of all other team members to be able to develop skills which can be used to achive career growth.
My trainers have all ways gone above and beyond for us thought the time of the course as they have regularly offered one on one coaching and help for individual learners to work of problem areas or with developing knoledge on more difficult theoretical bassed course work. And i have been very thankful at the amount of thier personal time they have given to help thier students.
When i first began at my current role i was for the most part inexperianced with butchery specialisation as well as direct customer service, but after my course i would say that i have developed both the professional confidence and the technical knoledge to be able to preform by work even better that befor.
My work place does make an effort to try and offer all employees the ability to attend or suggest various events, though personally this can me at a conflict with personal or schedualing conflicts. But overall thoses activaties we do have are very enjoyable, such as the office christmass party, easter bake sale and summer lunches.
Yes
I feel ive learned a lot, and would recomend it to others so they would be able to grow and develop in the same way i have. As i feel my course has helped me develop both personally and professionally.
Try to keep on top of writted assignments and never hesitate to cantact your trainer, if available, as i have found they are all ways ready and willing to help with any trouble areas you may have.
