As an apprentice project manager, I coordinate client liaison, manage the invoicing and budgeting of a public programme, generate client deliverables and documents, and quality assure reports. I liaise with internal and external teams daily to ensure on time project delivery, within the project scope.
I have had the opportunity to develop countless skills, such as use of software: excel, word, project, as well as developed communication, time management, and presentation. More role specific skills include quality assurance and management of financial and commercial project workload.
I love my degree apprenticeship programme, having the opportunity to pursue further study (a fully funded degree) which I can marry with hands on experience in the field I am learning about. I will also be industry qualified in the second year of my apprenticeship.
The programme is very well structured: with a 3.5 year duration, it is not much longer than a regular degree route, and I become qualified half way through the apprenticeship, allowing early opportunities for development. I have three industry placements in Arup to develop across multiple project fields.
Arup provide tons of support, ensuring onboarding is as smooth as possible and persistently liaising with the University in order to improve the programme and ensure our needs are met. My managers provide professional advice on assignments, check in regularly, and support further development aside from our degree
Our training provider provide detailed module study guides for each learning period, and give an in advance oversight of our end point assessment/dissertation so that we know what to expect. Lecturers are always willing to answer further questions and enquiries around our learning.
Through learning the basic and practical method to things, I have been able to apply this to my every day work and seek for improving my current ways of working. The course provides a good ground knowledge on tasks performed in work.
Arup offer a wide range of curricular activities, such as netball, football, gym classes, as well as other non-sport societies (I only engage in sports ones). They frequently remind us of apprentice networking invents and awards opportunities, encouraging our involvement.
