I work primarily on the detailed design of water civil projects, using CAD to create the drawings that will later be sent to the contractor.
I have worked for the company for 1.5 years and have learnt a significant amount about the job and the industry as a whole. My general knowledge and problem solving has become better since i started as well.
I enjoy my programme a lot as i feel it helps me progress in the right direction for my future career as well as helping me build the foundation knowledge that will be critical as i start taking more responsibility on.
The programme i am currently on is very well structed with lots of support in place from many different people so there is always someone i can talk about anything with.
ARUP offers so much support for every member which is extremely helpful especially when you first join.
Leeds college of building is not as supportive with apprentices as other students as their main focus is to hep people get a job once they leave. However if you ask for it and speak to the right people they will help you.
The qualification i am getting through college gives me the theory behind what i am doing in work which helps give me a starting place to work from and grow my knowledge.
ARUP does one main social event for the whole office once a month and individual teams may meet up more often there is also a plethora of clubs to join such as but not limited to art club, running, cycling and the ARUP snowboarding and skiing club. The skiing club will often go way once a year on a skiing/ snowboarding trip.
