  • we are responsible for the infrastructure side of midrange computers. This involves responding to issues, contacting third parties about products, preparing for future changes and implementing most and more.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have been allowed to dedicate time in practicing on different applications online and have improved my skills in all areas as a user. I have access to learning sites so I have learnt about specific computer topics and gained more knowledge of that as well.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • We work in the office, at home and at university so a good mix of all working environments. The people I work with are great and really supportive also.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is structured great however, the university could be programmed differently as a lot of the topics are very general and are not used by most students. So for the first year it seems a bit pointless learning a lot of it unless you are specifically interested in a topic

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Whenever I need help the team has had no issue in helping me even if I have to wait a little bit because they are busy. They have all made it clear that asking questions is part of it and they are happy to show me anything that I need if I was to ask

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • As already mentioned the programme is great but it feels very general. The topics are not chosen to fit our work paths and instead help with general topics like (coding and businesses). Not everyone needs this but it is still helpful because some people may need it well into the future.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Right now, apart from the coding the rest is completely pointless if I am honest. This is makes the programme more boring and annoying as half the time it is not beneficial for my role at all.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • I am actually playing in the 5 a side team every Monday (when I am in the office) and it is very enjoyable. It isn’t the most advertised thing in the world but contacts can get passed around and I play with other apprentices as well

  • 9a. Would you recommend Barclays to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Great salary, but more then that it is a great company filled with loads of possible paths so if you were to join and it’s not what you want you can change teams instead of companies. Also there are great employee benefits included in Barclays!

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Barclays?
  • Not everything is about grades! There are people in the course that got 4 A’s and some with D’s and C’s so do not stress. What’s more important is what you do outside of school so you can stand out more. Past work experience, extra curricular activities, hobbies and interests, etc. BE YOURSELF!
