Preparing ready meals for a display counter, weighing and packaging meats for multi packs. Cutting evenly sized steaks, serving customers on the counter on a daily basis, being able to offer advice and recommendations about cuts of meat. During my apprenticeship I will learn full carcass butchery as well as health and safety and knife skills.
I have learnt new knife skills and now have a good understanding of food hygiene and health and safety practices. I've always been interested in cooking and being around meat all the time means I know a lot more about what cuts to use and how to cook them.
I find the programme very enjoyable. Having previously worked in an office job I enjoy the fact that this is a practical role where I am on my feet all the time, I have always loved learning new things and feel like I learn something new every single day on the programme.
My programme is very well organised, I have been given a full schedule for the 18 month programme and the structure was explained to me very well during my induction meeting which took place on Microsoft teams. I have received regular email communication from my service provider and feel reassured that it is very well organised.
I receive a lot of support from my employer, all my colleagues are always really helpful and willing to answer any questions I have. My manager always makes sure I am given time to complete my tasks and that I have a quiet space to access my online training sessions.
I am only a few weeks into my apprenticeship but so far I have found the training providers incredibly helpful and supportive, I am confident that if I needed any help with any aspect of my training I would be able to get that help from the training provider.
Over the course of the qualification I will gain a wide range of skills that will help me in my role as a butchery counter assistant and will mean I can progress to the role of butcher. There will also be the opportunity to meet other apprentices and learn from them as well.
There are no extra curricular activities that I am able to get involved in at my place of work. As far as I am aware there are no sports teams or social activities and I have not been made aware of any professional networking events within the business thus far.

Hinchliffe's Farm Shop is a small, family run business that is considered a local institution, with a lot of long serving staff members and a strong core of long-time, loyal customers. The shop is committed to good quality produce and is a very nice place to work, I enjoy my job.
Don't worry too much about whether your previous job roles match up with the roles on offer, the company values passion and drive as much as any qualifications on paper and is happy to support people through any learning or qualifications that may further their career within the business
