I have not had a chance to really start my job yet due to boot camp being so busy. I will be based on a Technology helpdesk and have been getting some training once a week from a colleague giving me an overview of our area and topics to research.
I have learnt more technology terms and understand the sector more than I previously did being new to technology. I have learnt more about service desks and networking/wireless networking
i have been really enjoying the programme so far. i think it is an excellent opportunity to come into a new industry and learn a job while studying for a qualification a the same time and being paid for both. A great opportunity
The content has been great but not well structured. Bootcamp too condensed moving from one topic straight onto the other without a break to process and take content in. Some modules missed out or last minute given to us. Module time recommended not accurate to actually complete content
Full support from my employer. Manager has been excellent and says apprenticeship comes first and I have been control of my diary to ensure I have plenty of time to complete my work on time. On job training worked around my course.
Have had regular contact however last few weeks of bootcamp no one been available on zoom for morning/afternoon sessions which has been frustrating. Email responses limited due to marking/paperwork for level 8. Sessions should have been reduced to one 30 minute slot to still have contact
The qualification so far has given me more knowledge of the sector and Level 8 looks to be more specific and relatable to my job role. I am looking forward to a more structured and assignments more specific to the topic and not just generic reflection tasks.
there are activities available however due to family situation I am unable to partake out with business hours. I have attended several online events which has been good for networking
Yes
Extremely supportive during apprenticeship, they want what is best for you, encourage your development and learning, everyone I have met has been super friendly and helpful, paid well for an apprenticeship and they pay for your qualification, long term career - low turnover of staff
Definitely apply and go for it. It is an amazing opportunity for someone to enter the industry even with no prior knowledge. Full training is given, support from manager/team/apprentice team all of the way. Long term career prospects at the end with good salary.
