Opening/Closing the store, checking safe stock and till stock to ensure prepared for days trading. Setting up all staff members for their day, checking and investigating any customer complaints. Booking checking throughout the day, assisting staff with queries where needed and sales managing. Completing end of day banking and closing the shop.
I have learnt many new skills during my course - the biggest skill I would say that has been developed is my emotional intelligence, especially regarding my people skills and how to approach different difficult conversations. I would also say I have developed my own confidence and understanding of my role too.
I thoroughly enjoy my program, I enjoy the aspects of having workshops both instore, over teams and in person to vary the way I learn as well as getting to meet the other people on my course in the same role as me. My coach is extremely supportive and so I feel confident I am making the most of my course.
The programme itself is very organised, my coach always knows where I am with my work and what I need to do next. My in store organisation can sometimes have an effect on how much work I can do in certain time periods but the programme works around my busy stores timings and availability.
The support from the learning and development team is good - my coach is amazing support and I can go to her at any time throughout the week and she is around to assist. My manager isn't always able to support as much as we run a high footfall, busy retail store however whenever I need help with an assignment she makes herself free to assist me.
I have support from my coach and the TUI L&D team frequently, we have catch ups, work shops, teams drop ins and communication on a locked team page often. I don't have involvements with the team who do the actual apprenticeship.
100%! My management skills and approach has changed significantly since starting my learning and I have grown within my role but also within myself too. Its been a learning curve for me as a young adult and learnt so much.
We have different networks that can be joined, and other groups you can join e.g. running and book clubs - although I am not part of one I have heard great things. One of my friends is in the LGBT+ group and took part in Manchester Pride on the TUI float from being part of it!
Yes
TUI has been my only employer since I first started over 5 years ago, I have grown so much as a person and have been a participant in 2 apprenticeship courses in my career and both have been so informative and allowed me to perform to the best of my ability. I love our values, our brand and the people I have met since joining.
Be yourself!! Be unique, and passionate - give it your all. Have a base knowledge for what we offer, but there's always so much to learn. Have a knowledge of computers already ideally as the systems can get confusing but that's what your colleagues and management are there for! You'll be great :)
