Immersive involvement in business projects, communicating across diverse multi-functional teams to produce the deliverables. My role as an apprentice involves supporting the local business area that I am in and developing my own personnel skillsets and knowledge, as well as studying towards my BEng in Aerospace and Manufacturing Engineering.
Yes, absolutely. By working within the business environment, which strongly encourages personal development, I have had the opportunity to develop my stakeholder management and time management skill sets. These are essential for any organization. Furthermore, I have learnt how to use CAD and CAM software.
I personally feel as if this course is a no-brainer to those wishing to pursue a degree whilst gaining valuable experience in industry. Occasionally the workload spikes, but it is manageable and only short-term.
Very well organized, there have been no major hiccups with the programme structure. It is a proven and tested format which is improve upon year after year.
Fantastic support can be found through various routs within the business. Airbus take the time to ensure employees are looked after and that all these support pathways are easily accessible.
Support towards qualifications is good and time is allocated for study. Occasionally there are issues within getting support directly through the University, but they are all resolved eventually.
It has greatly broadened and deepened my knowledge around the various engineering disciplines within aerospace and manufacturing. I can apply learnings in my placement tasks, being confident that I can perform them with a sufficient level of technical knowledge.
There is a plethora of extra-curricular activities that you can get involved in, running through one of the employee resource groups. Opportunities are communicated out in plenty of time and all apprentices are encourage to attend.
Yes
The opportunity to study for a degree as well as gain invaluable experience in a leading aerospace organization, all whilst developing yourself as an individual is an opportunity too good to turn down.
Don't just rely on grades - make sure you have some other activities that you can talk about in your interview, to show you have demonstrated the relevant skills and motivations for the job. Never be afraid to ask questions.
