  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am a first year Procurement apprentice at AstraZeneca. My role includes lots of different aspects including reviewing contracts, working with a range of suppliers, cost savings, using different E-Systems, completing risk assessments, collaborating with different functions within the organisation and networking with a wide range of people including other apprentices.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt lots of new skills since joining and found a greater sense of confidence. I have developed new skills such as different ways of presenting with impact and using data systems such as Excel and PowerBI which has increased my capabilities. In addition to this I have learnt various communication skills both formal and informal.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I thoroughly enjoy my programme through AstraZeneca and getting to do hands on work which aligns with my education provider has greatly benefitted me. I have also enjoyed getting to know lots of different apprentices through the welcoming apprentice community and the training we are provided with to progress in our roles.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My programme is very well structured as I am entitled to 20% off the job study so I can focus on my CIPS Level 4. My team are also very well structured and organised meaning I have lots of help available to me at all times.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • There are many different ways in which AstraZeneca provide the support to anyone who needs it. I receive enormous amounts of support from my team if I am struggling with tasks or out of work issues, someone is always willing to listen. Fellow apprentices are also amazing for support as we have mental health and well-being support groups available to us.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My education provider supports me through my Under 19 support sessions in which they help me with any difficulties I am facing with any of the content. I also receive regular 1:1 sessions with a learning and development coach and with a tutor.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Progressing through my Level 4 qualification has boosted my confidence and knowledge within procurement, giving me a greater understanding of my role and how we fit into the organisation. My performance has developed well whilst studying as I feel a sense of motivation and commitment to learn.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • At AstraZeneca there are a wide variety of different employee resource groups such as inclusion and diversity, pride and inspire. These all contribute to a positive working environment were everyone is valued for contributions. There is also an apprentice social committee which organises a variety of different events to get involved in.

  • Yes

  • AstraZeneca has help to develop my skills and growth mindset both in and out of work. It is an inclusive and welcoming organisation where everyone is valued and recognised for contributions. It has given me a greater sense of confidence and given me an opportunity to progress in my early career.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to AstraZeneca?
  • Be curious and show that you are motivated to develop and learn in an apprenticeship role. Showcase your skills to the best of your ability and be yourself!
