Currently my role is as an MEP apprentice, meaning Mechanical, electrical and public health engineering specific to buildings and built environment. On a day to day basis, I focus on tasks that enhance my apprenticeship journey to provide me with the knowledge and skills and competency throughout my career.
I've learnt many skills since the beginning of my journey, which includes working and shadowing experienced colleagues when going on site, interactions with subcontractors in meetings and site walks and upholding responsibilities regarding trackers and completion of the project.
I enjoy this programme as I've developed myself further as compared to how I started. When I started, everything felt very new to me as I just came out of a school environment. However, after getting used to the work environment I've become more confident in my self and what I'm becoming.
This programme is well structured as it consists of apprenticeship development sessions to enhance our knowledge on the different sectors as well as developing ourselves as individuals. Also having a set study day which includes going to university and gaining a qualification also develops me academically in relation back to work.
I receive a great amount of support from my employer, colleagues and managers throughout this programme. As things can be very new having this support helps with my progress, new skills and knowledge.
I receive a lot of support from my training provider. Examples would be having review meetings with the training provider and line manager to identify my strengths, weaknesses, grades, progress, attendance, off the job training and personal and general improvements I might need.
My qualification helps me perform better in my role as it gives me the knowledge to relate back to my role and gives me an understanding of how things work.
Extra activities such as networking events where we meet directors or other apprentices to discuss job roles and our journeys. We also have volunteering that we do where we can choose if its for a charity, representing the company to schools and inspiring the generation in the field.
