I split my time between in office work days based at Warwick, Aston University, and National Grid's training centre based in Eakring. While training we receive industry leading teaching regarding our future role. We also attend Aston University to get a Foundation degree in Power Systems Engineering.
During my apprenticeship I have carried out many training courses at National Grid's training centre that relates to my future role and have developed my knowledge and skills regarding the Electrical Transmission industry.
So far I have really enjoyed my programme, I feel that my apprenticeship will help me with my future role in the company as well as the wider industry.
We received our programme plan approximately a year in advance so in most cases we have known beforehand what and where we are going to be. In some cases however locations and timings have not been considered to the extent they should of been.
I feel that the support I receive from National Grid is very high, I am able to contact my Line Manager at all times, as well as the Training Support Team who run regular meetings with apprentices. We also have regular progress reviews where we are able to flag anything.
National Grid provide time and support when completing my qualifications.
I believe that the qualification I am working towards relates heavily to my future role.
I have attended multiple networking events held by National Grid as well as volunteering.
Yes
National Grid provides amazing training for entering the energy industry and is a great place to work for.
Make sure to research the industry and what National Grid do as a company. Specifically what working in the control room entails, and if you are going to be comfortable working shifts in the future.
