As a tax trainee I assist with the preparation and submission of Guernsey, UK and Jersey individual and company tax returns, as well as the general admin jobs such as engagement letter and client due diligence.
I have developed my excel skills (as I use this daily) and they way in which I speak to client both on the phone and in person. Also as I'm working in tax I'm learning the tax laws as well on the content on the ACCA course.
I really enjoy the programme as I'm learning new skills as well as developing existing ones. The work is varied and each client is different which makes the work more enjoyable. The team in which I am in also help to make the programme more enjoyable.
I feel very valued at BDO. Both from my team for the work that I do whether it is day to day work or one off and in any exam success which is also recognised by the whole firm.
The programme is well organised and structured. It has external courses for the professional qualifications like ACCA and general tax course on help with my day to day job.
The support from the training provider is very good. The tutors are willing to help and answer any questions relating to that course whether it in during the course time or outside of the question ie via email.
There is plenty of support from BDO as most people in the firm have been through the process and know that its like. My mentor is supportive and is willing to help and answer any queries that I have.
I feel that my salary does must my costs. My daily living costs are not too high so my salary easy covers the costs and allows me to save some for the future.
Yes, we have a sports and social night generally once a month as well as an annual dinner. Which are a good way to socialise outside of work and get to know other employees.
Yes
They are an good employer offering good opportunities and training, as well as other non financial peaks. The staff are friendly and are willing to help you and make sure that you succeed.
Try and get some work experience before hand, as that gives up an idea of what the firm is like. Also research the firm before the interview as that gives the impression that you are keen.
