I am Team Leader/Care Assistant, my daily roles involves supporting people with Dementia to lead a fulfilling life, to make sure their lives are meaningful, every day has a purpose, with new experiences, be these having discussions, baking, cooking, going on trips to experience life outside of their daily environment. Added to this is the responsibility that the people I support are involved in their care planning, their daily food and fluid requirements are met, safety precautions and procedures are in place for the individual, to liase with other healthcare professionals in the support of the individuals.
New skills that I have developed are computer skills, learning new ways to access information for the benefit of the individuals I support, to enrich their lives, be this places to visit outside of the establishment they live, ways to support the individual with different aids to assist the individual when needed. I have also developed new skills for the development of myself as a Team Leader to help my self and support my colleagues.
I have enjoyed the programme because it has been a great learning experience for myself to progress as a Care Assistant and a Team Leader, to learn new skills and continue to learn new skills for the benefit of the people I support, my colleagues and the organisation I work for.
The programme is very well organised and structured as I am learning new skills everyday helping me to prioritise my daily tasks and responsibilities, to learn how to better enhance and use my knowledge for, again, the benefit of the people I support, myself my colleagues and other health care professionals, such as Doctors, physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists and Nurses.
I receive an immense amount of support from my employer in everything I do. I am encouraged and supported to further my career in care by way of mental support when I feel I am not doing so well, helping me with my daily tasks when I need support, offering me advice and encouragement when needed. Overall I could not wish for a better support team from those who are my employers.
Support when needed is always on offer and there when needed from my training provider. Be this in the form of one to one meetings, meetings via zoom, phone calls, emails, the support I have received from my trainer and the service has been outstanding I would highly recommend realise in the future .
