My job role involves processing payroll for around 400 temporary workers each week, I input hours from timesheets, process P45s, deal with pay queries, process reports, communicate with client and workers, process statutory payments like maternity pay etc, process deductions like tax and national insurance, calculate holiday accrual and more.
Since starting my payroll level 3 apprenticeship course 2 years ago I have gained so much confidence, my communication skills improved when commentating with clients or workers, I have gained skills such as problem solving, attention to detail, time management, organisation, leadership, adaptability, confidentiality and working as part of a team.
I really enjoy my programme as it is very informative, the tutors are friendly and helpful and there is lots of resources available if you need them. The sessions are interesting and easy to understand with plenty of examples to help you understand the topic. Some of the sessions are group sessions so you can discuss the topic with other learners.
The program is very well structured, during the virtual sessions you go through each topic, try out example questions, ask the tutor anything you are struggling to understand and at the end the tutor goes through your tasks with you. After the session you are sent any additional resources that may be useful.
My employer is very supportive by giving me the time needed to complete my tasks, answering any questions I may have, motivating me to do my best and checking my work before I submit it to give me any tips or advice. I feel comfortable talking to my employer about my apprenticeship as they are very understanding.
I receive endless amounts of support and encouragement from my training provider, they provide answers to all of my questions as soon as possible and whenever I am struggling they offer me a one-to-one support session to discuss my concerns. They offer revision sessions, access to useful portals and guides that provide plenty of information.
I started my apprenticeship with no payroll experience or knowledge and my course has taught me everything I needed to know. Thanks to my level 3 course I was able to gain confidence in myself and suggest new processes in my organisation to improve efficiency and accuracy when processing our payroll.
In my workplace we our involved with our city's football team and have the ability to go to the football matches to network and engage with our clients and build strong relationships. We often have work meals out to encourage team building within the workplace and to get to know each other better outside of a work environment,
Yes
Genesis Employment consists of only 14 employees but that allows everyone to build close and strong relationships with each other. In Genesis Employment the work we do is important but we also make time have some fun to create a good balance, this makes coming to work everyday so much more enjoyable!
The only tips and advice I would give is to just be yourself, that was my mindset when I came to the office for my first interview. The interviewers will just be trying to get to know you better so it is very important to ensure you are being yourself.
