I work as a Graduate Surveyor at Savills and complete the MSc in Real Estate part time alongside my work. I am on the commercial London rotation scheme which means I rotate around different departments every 4-8 months. The rotations can cover anything from Valuations, Investment, Development, Agency and Property Management. Day to day, I work within a team made up of Surveyors up to Directors. I am gain a lot of client exposure, and get to get out the office and see a lot of sites.
The MSc in Real Estate is assisting my general work as I can put the content I am learning into action straight away. My skills are constantly developing as I progress through the scheme and aim towards my APC.
Balancing my university work with Savills is very manageable, as line managers are very respective of allowing you to take your study leave when its needed. My day to day role is very varied and I am constantly learning.
It is a very well organised scheme, and the proof is in all the prior graduates to have completed the scheme before and have gone on to progress up the levels within the company.
Savills provide plenty of support for all aspects of the job. The team I work in is very supportive for my day to day work, ensuring I am learning relevant experience and developing the necessary skills I need for the APC. In addition, the graduate HR team at Savills support you with your general graduate scheme, which can be anything from your rotation plans/choices to personal matters.
Savills provides a large amount of APC support. They run constant APC training sessions, and put on many hours of CPD each year.
The main requirement for the MSc is to gain an RICS accredited qualification, such that my academic requirements satisfy the RICS. The content in the MSc can be useful for some of my day to day role, however a lot of the day to day job cant be learnt from lectures or classrooms.
Savills provides lots of sports teams that you can get involved in from 5-a-side football to surveyor sevens rugby. Savills also put on professional networking evets across the year which can be with an array of clients or purely internal.
