  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work alongside various team members where I am learning how to value assets on a trading basis, rather than a conventional bricks and mortar basis. In a week I typically spend a day inspecting properties, three days dedicated to report writing and a day dedicated to y university studies.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I currently sit on the marketing committee for our team and work alongside my colleagues in focus groups to think of business develop opportunities and client targeting methods. In doing so I have extensively developed my excel skills, where I have captured data, which informs decisions made by those senior in the team, my literacy skills and developed my understanding of the markets we cover. I have also worked inter-divisionally with the marketing and research teams to assist in producing a spotlight piece on the Children's Day Nursery 2023 spotlight, Garden Centre 2023 spotlight, Garden Centre Blog, an Aspects of Leisure article for the 2024 spring publication and I am currently writing a piece of literature for an industry wide publication. These opportunities have enabled me to develop my time management skills and become more adaptable, when working with different colleagues.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The Future Talent and Development team are easy to reach. I also have the university support from my apprentice outcomes officer and regular check ins with my line manager.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My team continues to support me to grow my skillset. I've worked on various marketing projects, business development opportunities and assisted in numerous portfolio valuations. The central Future Development and Talent team are easy to reach and I appreciate the regular one to one calls I have with them. I know the company is seeking to minimise costs, so we have had limited networking opportunities, however, the ones we have had provide a good networking opportunity and chance to meet up. They're a good reminder of any common struggles which we may have with university work.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I am able to contextualise what I learn on my university course in the work place and vice versa. I feel this enables me to retain the information more so than if I were just doing a university degree.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • We have two team strategy days per year and lunches. As an office, we often have lunch and learns, which are typically hour long sessions, provided by different departments, covering important matters within the sector. Amongst the office, we also have graduate drinks, I attend the externally arranged CPD events and we have company sports teams.
