I am an apprentice and currently this involves working in various departments all across site to gain a greater understanding of how things are done as well gain more experience.
I have had the chance to get hands on with various tools and equipment during my placements around site which has definitely developed my hand skills.
I’m really enjoying the programme at the moment, to begin with it’s a unique experience working in this industry, which makes it exciting and interesting to work here. Also, I’m really enjoying working in different departments as I’m learning new things and chatting to new people.
I would say the programme is well organised, from the very start I was given a leaflet on roughly how the programme will progress throughout the two years so I’m aware of to expect. On top this I’ve received detailed training plans on where my placements / courses.
The support is great, any questions or concerns I have are addressed fairly quickly, whether this be from the training department or where I am during my placements. The training side of things offers a lot support too.
I have scheduled meetings / reviews every month with my NVQ assessor, where I can discuss any issues I have then. I can also email them whenever need be and that’s great.
At the moment I don’t feel like it’s had much of an affect in my performance in work.
There is, we often have school visits where i get Involved and explain a bit to the school kids. I recently went to the Cosford Air museum with the other apprentices.

It is such a unique job and the opportunities here at Babcock are endless. Getting hands on with tools, various courses which are always interesting, and the amount of skills you can achieve and develop.
Just go for it. You'll certainly enjoy your time if you were to get a position.
