As I am a first year apprentice, I am based at college five days a week and go to Gatwick during half-term periods. Therefore, my daily tasks include things such as going to lessons and completing my assignments on time.
Since being at college, I have indulged in various practical activities an learnt many skills as a result. This includes things such as welding, using both milling and lathe machines, electrical installation and different tests, and general use of hand-held tools.
I have thoroughly enjoyed my experience so far both at college and the times I have been to Gatwick. College has allowed me to socialise with likeminded people and learn more about engineering each day, whilst being at Gatwick has allowed me to apply my skills in a professional environment.
In terms of the workplace, the structure is thoroughly thought out and I am clearly allocated with various engineering sections when I spend anytime there. I am also checked upon frequently regarding my progress. In terms of college, regular reviews are taken to track my progress but some lesson structure could be improved.
My employer has supported me fully so far during my apprenticeship and has made me feel comfortable the whole way through with the most support possible. My employer couldn't have been better throughout my time so far.
My current training provider is East Surrey College. For the majority, they have been useful in helping me achieve my goals and have pushed me to make the most progress possible. However, some sections of college life could be more supportive.
It gives me the foundation of engineering knowledge which I can take into the workplace and apply where required.
There are some extra-curricular events taking place to improve team building however I would appreciate more activities if they arose and would definitely attend if possible.
