I commission, test and maintain installations on Yorkshire Water sites. This could be electrically powering up an MCC or sampling water to ensure that chemical dosing is going as anticipated.
I have learned countless skills electrically, this could be from wiring a panel, to completing panel mods, to installing and setting up new instruments. But a big skill that I have developed is my confidence in speaking to new people, I feel like I can comfortably talk to someone who I have never met which is something I would have never done prior to joining JN Bentley.
I really enjoy my apprenticeship. There is obviously going to be some bits which can be boring but you get that at every workplace. I am happy that I found an apprenticeship in something that I am genuinely interested in and passionate about. I look forward to coming to work as it very rarely gets repetitive.
I would say, when starting there was certainly less structure and I was just floating from person to person, but as time has gone on and my skills are developing, I am starting to get more structure.
I receive loads of support from my employer and my colleagues. If there is ever any questions, queries or concerns, I know I can always speak to someone and won't be pushed aside.
I receive good support from the training provider, my tutor is a big help and likes to ensure that you have taken in what has been taught. He will often go the extra mile to ensure we are progressing through the apprenticeship without issues.
I don't really feel like I have used much from college whilst on the job as of yet. But this is due to what I do covering such a vast field and there is a lot to learn in MEP engineering. I do know that there are things that I will be getting taught in the future that will be useful on site. I did do a course which is needed on site and that was provided by my training provider.
There is a monthly sports and social event run by the people in the office, I don't attend these but know I could if I want to. These can range from bowling to go karting. There is also an annual Christmas party and Summer party which is open for everyone to attend.
Yes
It is a large ad reputable company, the support I receive is great and everyone I work with is friendly. They put me through any courses I may want to complete for example I have completed a first aid at work course and multiple non required courses which just aid my knowledge at work. JN Bentley also provide everything needed to work such as a laptop, phone, car allowance and pay back money for petrol that I have used at work so I don't need to spend a thing out of my own pocket to attend work, they also aim to pay better wages than most companies for apprenticeships.
I would say get involved in everything, there are so many varieties of jobs to do at work and if it is in a field that you are interested in then you will always have something different to look forward to. I would also say, say yes to all courses offered to you, I have been offered to complete many courses which are all funded by the company.
