My role is as an apprentice electrical engineer is to learn how to maintain electrical systems and equipment on my sites. This includes planned preventative maintenance and reactive jobs where installs and repairs are required such as pump install, fitting lights, resolving pump blockages, etc.
How to use test equipment and the testing procedures to carry out in a safe manner. How to replace and install a new pump. How to fault find which I am continuing to improve on. The legislation and regulations in place I need to be aware of
I thoroughly enjoy my programme.
It can be more organised and clear on the part of the college as there has been many mixed signals from the beginning which made it difficult to know how to make progress.
I receive a lot of support.
The support could be better in terms of clear and consistent messaging.
There could be much more practical, hands on activities to cement our knowledge.
Not that I am aware of
Yes
Overall, my experience of Thames has been an overwhelmingly positive one. Management and my co-workers have been very kind and supportive.
Be honest, show your enthusiasm and willingness to learn and fill your knowledge and skills gaps.
