My role involves setting out on site using a total station or gps or laser level. Other activities include survey works and cat and genny scanning cables and any underground services along with writing permits to set sub contractors to work. Other daily activities include daily inspections on tasks completed on site.
All my current skills have been learnt since starting with Balfour Beatty.
I think the programme is good however there is a lot of pressure on managing fulltime site work and managing a degree with the amount of coursework along with other training that is required to fulfil my role as a civil engineer.
The training programme is well structured with many things to get involved in and all the training is provided and organised very well.
My Employer supports me in every way to ensure that I'm able to complete all aspects of my job along with university commitments.
I receive some help when working towards my qualification
It doesn't. The Modules I'm taught at university are not widely transferable into my role as a civil engineer.
There are plenty of extra curricular activities to get involved in within the workplace such as social acitivities and many networking events.
Yes
They're by far the best company to work for in my opinion as they have many different career paths that can be taken and they support me with the apprenticeship. Balfour Beatty can help me decide what career path suits me the best and they will help me to get to where I want to be.
The advice I would give someone apply to Balfour Beatty is to show that you're hard working and determined as this will help to ensure you're a strong candidate for the position that you're applying for
