  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work in the IT Services department of the university. My roll involves billing other departments and external companies to the University. I action all the set ups, closures, budget uplifts etc for our departmental projects. I monitor our departments finance inbox and deal with any queries.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have developed my communication skills with doing my apprenticeship and have grown massively in confidence. My skills with the use of excel have developed a huge amount and I have learnt a lot of new useful skills within excel for example how to do a v-lookup.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I am really enjoying my programme. I have already completed a level 2 apprenticeship with the university so am now on to my second apprenticeship. I enjoy learning new things and meeting other apprentices. As well as the opportunities my job gives me such as being an apprentice ambassador

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My programme is really well structured. I attend college once a week. I have a training plan in place in my job role to ensure I am able to get all the off the job training hours required for my apprenticeship. I also have regular meetings with my training coordinator and line manager.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I have received a lot of support from my employer. They support me with my training to plan to ensure that all requirements of my apprenticeship are met. There is also always somebody I need help with anything whether that be someone in my department or the central apprenticeship team.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My training provider have been great through out my apprenticeship journey. My college tutor is always available and will help in anyway they can to ensure that I have all the knowledge for my exams. My training coordinator is also amazing at ensuring all elements of my apprenticeship are being met when we have a regular reviews

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • My qualification helps a great deal with my job role. I am able to understand and use the correct terminology within my role. I also think that it helps me to pick up new tasks quicker and understand why I am doing the tasks that I do.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • In my department there is a regular running group. Within the whole university there is an apprenticeship network which is ran by other apprentices. This networking group means you can meet up with other apprentices usually on a monthly basis and go and do activities such as mini golf or going for a meal.

  • 9a. Would you recommend University of Oxford to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I would definitely reccommend the university to a friend. This is because of the generous apprentice salary, the help and support that is always around as well as the career progression that there is within the university for example I have now got a permanent job role in my department since completing my first apprenticeship.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to University of Oxford?
  • I would advise spending time when applying with things like there CV and covering letters as you want to portray yourself in the best way possible. Be honest with your level of experience in a role as the whole point of an apprenticeship is to learn something new,
