  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • my day to day role is working with 3D models of construction models. this usually involves me creating models on CAD software (mostly civils 3D). I generally create models like cones and barriers then level them so that they can be visible in Navisworks so that engineers can visualise what the finished construction will look like. i also work with BIM360 usually transferring check sheets into a digital format and also uploading ITPs. i have also worked with RFIs in the past which involved geolocating them to where they was relevant on site.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I believe my program is very good i feel like i am paced quite well and also am not thrown into the deep end. I get the training and the support that i need in my job role. I also get lots of support from people at work and also from my line manager who is always there to help.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • my programme doesn't always feel very organised but that is less of a fault with my line manager and is more of a fault with the industry as a whole. in the construction industry there are lots of ups and downs in our work load so we can do a lot one week and then not much on the next.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a lot of support i am always getting training to help me with my job and getting check-ups to see if I'm ok. if I ever need anything i can usually ask my employer and i will receive help with whatever the task may be.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • i get quite a lot of support which could be anything from help when im there to documents and resources that i can read for help. i even have some private days which are a one to one lesson which is used to upskill my knowledge in multiple subjects that i will need in the work place and to complete the course.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • i feel like there is quite alot of overlap in the things i am taught by my training provider and the stuff that i do in the work place. for example i have been taught about basic construction know how which goes along way of understand what is going on in the work place.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • there are some activates that you can do, for example 2 payed days of volunteering a year which you can choose what you will do with that. but other then that there doesn't seem to be a lot to get involved with after work or anything like that but there are plenty of time to get involved in networking in work times just not a lot out of work.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Balfour Beatty to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • there is a large broad area of courses available meaning there is something that will interest anyone. they have good support and are a generally friendly company and a good work environment. the pay is also good and i think the overall experience is quite pleasant and it feels like you are pushed to learn as much as you can.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Balfour Beatty?
  • my advice would probably be to be open to trying different things when you are at Balfour Beatty. there is so much you could do here if you are open to giving it a try and there are a lot of job opportunities available.
