  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role includes drafting ministerial correspondence for different ministers in the Department. We work with Private Office to manage, draft and send response letters to MPs who have written to the department.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • From this role I have developed many skills. These skills include communication skills, project management skills, drafting skills, time management skills, multi-tasking skills and reliability.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I have done a similar course before for A-Level so I have spent a lot of time going over information I have learned previously. I have had to do slightly different things such as presentations, professional discussions and projects, which I haven't enjoyed too much.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • It wasn't too structured at the beginning so it took me a few months for me to be gaining all of my apprenticeship hours with tasks. I am now on track to finish.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive enough time to complete my apprenticeship work every week and my manager is very good at helping with tasks and that require their input.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My apprenticeship training officer has been very helpful in structuring my learning and aiding me when I needed extra help with some assessments.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The project management skills have helped me in my role, however a lot of content from the course is not relevant to my role as there is a lot of financial aspects to the course and my role does not include finance.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Department of Health and Social Care to a friend?
  • No


  • 9b. Why?
  • My role includes a lot more tasks and administration work that when I began and the tasks increase with time. The pay does not reflect this.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Department of Health and Social Care?
  • I would recommend that they are able to write about their relevant skills and can link them to the civil service behaviours.
