I work full time at a primary school named St John's Primary School. My role is to care for 3-4 year olds 5 days a week 8:30-3:15. This involves changing nappies and clothes, developing their skills based on the 'Early Learning Goals'. After thr working day, I am expected to complete activities (units) on different topics to extend my learning.
From working full time, I've learnt so much and I feel like a professional already, despite not completing my apprenticeship yet. From teaching the children, I've taught myself and my independence has flourished.
I receive brilliant support from my tutor at LMP and my manager at Inspire ATA. Eventhough it's all based online, I feel close and comfortable with the support staff that checks up on me and my learning weekly/monthly. I find the homework challenging due to the intensity of working in a nursery.
It's fairly well structured and my tutor guides me through the units. To improve, I'd suggest meetings with the line manager of the placement to ensure stability for apprentices and reminders for placements to provide the correct support.
I receive reasonable support as I know how challenging it is to withhold staff in school so there have been lots of staffing changes/rearrangements in classrooms.
I receive brilliant support from my training provider; Jonathan is amazing and motivates me to work towards my goals
The meetings allow me to discuss my progress and makes the journey feel professional and supportive. The homework allows me to learn about things I may not learn in my setting. For example, learning about babies as the children I teach are 2 years and up.
Yes there are. We have socials gatherings to check in with each other and emails are sent out about special occasions-like birthdays- to bring people closer
Yes
It's a professional, independent way to gain a qualification and provides efficient support for their apprentices.
Keep on top of their off the job hours so it doesn't build up- that goes for coursework too. And to communicate with tutors and managers if there are any concerns or queries.
