I am a Packaging Apprentice, which involves working with new materials to hit Nestle's 2025 Sustainable commitment goal as well as looking at ways to make an existing products that aren't easily recycled, recyclable.
I have developed my communication skills through working in different teams on site and nationally, where I have learnt the importance of including someone from each department, as its easier to see the gaps in projects etc, working in a team allows a smoother run.
I thoroughly enjoy my program as I am able to Travel to different places, attend University and get the full experience without being in any student debt. My program allows me to work with people of all experience, and learn on the job whilst honing my skills at University and developing my knowledge.
My Programme is very well structured from on boarding to the role itself. I attend University 7 times a year, from this I am entitled to one Uni Day a week to focus on assignments etc. Regarding the working side I have gradually been introduced to that of what a Packaging Specialist should do attending all necessary training to work within a factory e.g Food Safety etc and working along side a Senior Pack Specialist.
Within my role I shadow a Senior Pack Specialist, I have on site regular 1:1 catch ups with my line manager on site and my line manager outside of site. I am mentored by a previous apprentice who was in my position and have an onsite support network from other grads and apprentices as well as an on site Mentor. In addition, I have regular catch ups with my support buddy who helped during my on boarding process.
Within Sheffield Hallam, I have an apprenticeship mentor who helps me make sure I am getting my hours in for my Uni Day as well as support from Lecture Leads. Staff members are always available to help with assignments.
My Qualification allows me to see more about the scientific side of packaging and the way the composition of a material impacts its behaviour. I look at things I wouldn't necessarily see at work so it broadens my knowledge, e.g I don't work with Glass but this is covered in the course.
I am involved in the Communications Team within my site, where all the apprentices and graduates are also included. Operators regular update about sports competitions you can get involved in .

I'd recommend Nestle to a friend as they are an amazing company to work for, you are extremely well looked after and everyone is so lovely to work with.
