I am a trainee Civil Engineer based at the Silvertown Tunnel. My day-to-day duties include surveying and setting out, management and planning of works, resource allocation and management. I am site based, with a few hours in the office each day.
I am constantly developing my time-mangement skills, juggling the degree work and site work can be difficult. I have aslo developed good communication and listening skills. Problme solving comes everyday on the job, overcoming these issues requires interpersonal and management skills.
I have really enjoyed this apprenticeship. I have had the opportunity to work and learn on the one of kind project. I have met some amazing people who are great connections to have!
I always know who to contact and if they dont give me the answer then they will be able to direct me to the person who does. I always find out about things with enough notice.
I always feel supported and theres always more than one person that I can think of who would be able to help me with something that I need. I always have the opportunity to request training. The company as a whole really caere for thier employees wellbeing.
The college are really helpful and give us lots of information when we are there!
Definitely, it gives us an insight into other job roles too! Its good to be getting technicial knowledge from the college while we are getting the practical experience on site.
