Maintaining and fault fixing the Hybrid Fibre Coaxial and Fibre to the Property Networks fed from Derby Head End. On a day-to-day basis I will work either independently or together to ensure that VMO2s customers stay connected.
I have learnt a wide range of network skills including basic device configurations and also fault finding processes as well as manual skills fixing faults in the field.
Really enjoyed the variety the job has, I work as part of a larger team and have plenty of support if required.
The overall structure of the programme has been good, the main flaws with the programme lie with the training provider, Estio. They assumed a certain amount of prior knowledge despite not coming from a telecoms background.
As much as I require, they've always made it clear that if i need any additional support I can ask and they will do their best to provide.
Estio have also provided as much support as I required
I think there is a gigantic disconnect between my programme and my role, the two are only minorly related as the network engineers at VMO2 generally work within the physical layer of the network.
Plenty of virtual networking, and regular in person events with the other apprentices in my cohort.
