I work in a training workshop using various machines such as laths mills and CNC machines. i learn about different tooling, materials, cutting methods and more. i have to make sure im following safety procudes and always be wearing PPE
When i started my apprenticeship i had no knowledge of anything to do with my apprenticeship. Now i can confidently use different machines around the workshop, different tooling, read engineering drawings and have good hand fitting skills
i enjoy my program a lot. there other apprentices are nice, the instructors are very friendly and treat everyone fairly. i have learnt so much since starting my apprenticeship and have a lot more i can still learn.
In the training school the instructors are very organised and have a clear path of work for you to do. But the organisation after is poor. There isn't enough areas for people to work once they get out of the training school so there are a lot of apprentices just sat around with nothing to do and this issue has been going of for at least 3 years now and hasn't been sorted.
I receive a lot of support from my employer. They have mental health first aiders. pastorals that u have monthly meetings with. Apprentices are regularly told where they canfind support.
when we need support we do get it. In my year group we were struggling with the maths they were teaching us at college so they brought in extra maths lessons at work which was really helpful
I have learnt so much from the start of my apprenticeship and i wouldn't be able to do my future role without all of the training i have been provided with so far
we do have a group that runs charity events and funs days every now and again but it hasn't really been doing much at the moment.
Yes
There are downsides to the apprenticeship but i believe every company will have that. with this apprenticeship, you get a lot of training and support and you can have a great career after within the company.
Attend a couple of careers events first so you get a better idea of what you would be applying for so you can work out which apprenticeship to apply for
