As a control engineer I will be in the TNCC dealing with outages, alarms and other planned work which will be delegated to me from the senior control engineer. I will be at the heart of real time control of the high voltage electricity transmission system in England and Wales.
I do various training courses at Eakring, all help me to develop a range of different skills and allow me to become qualified in many areas. I also get to develop my knowledge of physics and maths at university. Most of all I have been able to develop my communication, network and presenting skills.
Not only am I gaining so many new experiences, and doing something new every day. I have amazing peers who I am lucky enough to call my friends, and everyone I encounter is friendly and helps with whatever you need. When off site we get our hotels and meals paid for meaning we can go out to eat an evening meal as a group after a long day at university.
Very well organised & structured. We are given timetables long before anything happens. The apprenticeship team are happy to accommodate any holidays or swaps with timetables.
So much support from the apprenticeship team, and in the office. Especially from my manager, asks us what's on our mind whenever we see him and is always happy to support us with anything.
I am only in my first year of my foundation degree so I haven't actually got the qualification yet. However I do find that the knowledge helps me complete projects and understand equipment in a substation.
