In my day to day working week I am constantly going around the factories and different machine lines building relationships with the people I work with as well as expanding my product knowledge and knowledge of the business. I have interesting projects that keep my highly engaged and motivated throughout my working week.
I have developed on my team building skills and communication skills throughout the business and have become a lot more confident when presenting and talking to people within work. I have developed new skills based upon the machine lines and how they run and what goes into the production of different products.
I absolutely love the programme that I am on at the moment, I am very lucky to have a team like I have who always make me feel welcome and are always free to answer my questions about different projects. I could not recommend this apprenticeship enough and have already suggested this apprenticeship to many of my friends as I have loved every second.
The programme I am on is the first one that my company has run so the structure is not extremely solid however I probably prefer this as any suggestions or ideas are welcome and taken onboard by the management team so you feel more a part of the programme and your career.
I receive a large amount of support throughout the business all from different areas. There is a group of 5 Degree Apprentices who all help each other and provide support to each other as well as my own team who could not be more supportive and helpful. My line manager is amazing and always try's to stretch me to the best of my abilities but remembers to support me when needed so I never feel too much out of my comfort zone.
I receive a lot of support from my training provider, I constantly have 121 meeting and catch ups as well as fast replies to emails and questions I may ask. My training provider also suggests putting in extra meetings if I am struggling with a certain topic and is always very constructive and helpful.
I think my qualification helps massively and there is a lot of times where I have directly seen similarities from my course towards my work life. It helps me move into the new world of work with the correct outlook and approach on things to be the best I can be.
I get involved in many different activities within work for example helping out at the children's Christmas party, the company Christmas party, networking events, weekly meetups outside of work as well as team building events such as paintballing and go karting.
Yes
There are many different reasons why I would recommend Howdens to a friend however the main reason and the most important reason is the organisational culture. There is a completely different atmosphere then any other organisation, its a company who recognise and reward their staff as well as making the company feel like a family and not a job. I look forward to coming to work!
one tip I would give people is to be themselves on their interview and let their personality shine through and be seen as that is the key to this organisation.
