my day to day actions vary; firstly i could be reviewing drawings too see what work needs to be carried out on the site or at the location, also i could be creating drawings of the work that needs to be carried out, other jobs i can done are to contact suppliers and obtain information from them.
i have learnt lots of new skills varying from those on the computer such as microstation skills, and a vary large of computer operating skills, also had a good opportunity to develop my people skills in dealig with clients and suppliers.
i am thoroughly enjoying my programme, the experience i am gaining is well educated and the people around me make it a good environment for me to learn and progress in.
i feel like my day to day roles have a positive influence on the work arup does and it means that the work i have done has improved the workforce, therefore i feel very valued.
the apprenticeship programme at arup is very well structured and outlined, it has a clear path for me to follow and with its support from my college i feel i know exactly what i need to do.
as well as attend my provider once a week for my college course where any questions can be asked, i also have a 6-8 week review where a member of my training provider comes to my work to see me.
the support i receive from arup is very good, they are constantly interested in my progress and have an interest in how they can help and improve my learning while i am here.
the salary is above that of minimum apprentice wage therefore it gives a higher incentive to work hard and do my job to be the best of my abilities, and covers my costs well.
with arup being such a large and world wide company there are many out of work opportunities ranging from those as an office, to those within England and even the opportunity to travel out of the UK.
Yes
not only is the apprenticeship scheme here at arup very good and very well structured the career progression rout is also very good therefore it would be a great career choice working for arup.
the best thing you can do is show you are keen to learn and have a genuine interest in engineering and designing. understandably you will not have much knowledge if any about the area of arup you would be working in but as long as you where willing to learn that is the main thing.
