  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • This job role involves answering calls for breakdowns on machinery in order to get it back up and running so that production can carry on and products can get out of the door, it also sometimes means taking machinery that isnt running and checking it over to ensure that everything is functional for when it does run

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes I have learnt many skills that I didn't have before starting to work, things such as stripping down machinery to components and putting it back together with new ones.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the program lots, the only thing that I've noticed is that sometimes there is a lack of structure and I find myself sometimes struggling to find things to do to keep busy. There aren't many planned tasks for apprentices to get involved in and develop their skills.

    7/10

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The program has recently become a lot more structured with the managers actually getting in contact and discussing with my college assessor what needs to be done and the units that need to be completed in order to complete my apprenticeship. But before this there was no structure and barely any communication from managers on what to do and I wasn't given jobs to do.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer gives lots of support to my apprenticeship through various methods such as reviews and ensuring that college is going as planned and that I am not behind in any of my work.

    8/10

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The training provider supports me lots with working towards my qualifications, I have an external assessor that comes in to check up on my progress.

    9/10

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I think that certain aspects are very helpful for me in my role at work, for example understanding and making drawings whether mechanical or electrical is helpful in my work, also things such as testing on electrical items with a continuity and voltage tester.

    6/10

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There is very little of these things available, me and the other apprentices were invited to one of our other sites but that is all that I have really been asked to do or been involved in.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Premier Foods to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Because I feel as though the company is a good place to work and that they are helpful with everything that you will need to achieve your grades and also have a healthy work life balance as the work given between college, work and our college assessor is not too overbearing.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Premier Foods?
  • Make sure that you are punctual and good at time keeping as these values are important to premier foods and it will also impress managers as these are the things that they look for in younger people. Its also important to have initiative and take it upon yourself to go above and beyond what has been asked of you
