I work in a change division within the Group Operations and Technology function. I perform business and data analysis on change projects. My day-to-day role includes stakeholder management, data profiling & creating business documents to support change. I work within the Data Management Office and support teams around the bank to improve the quality of data
Yes, I have learnt several new skills within my role at UBS. This includes Alteryx, which is a data analytics application, extensive knowledge of internal systems and processes, and an in-depth knowledge of Microsoft office. These skills are transferable from role-to-role both internal to UBS and in most external industries.
It can be reasonably stressful due to high workload, and lots of content within the degree course alongside. However, apprentices are given scope to develop, alongside plenty of opportunities across their functions.
The apprenticeship team are relatively hands off, and your main point of contacts are the team you are assigned to and business sponsors, who can help facilitate rotations within the function you apply for. There is quite a loose structure within the apprenticeship, as rotations aren’t mandatory or suggested, but it is down to the apprentice to create their own opportunities and build networks.
My team are extremely supportive, helpful and understanding of my needs as an apprentice. The knowledge of degree apprenticeships has improved over the years, and study days are supported and protected within the apprenticeship.
The support from training provider has improved over the course of the apprenticeship. Each apprentice is assigned an academic mentor at the start of the apprenticeship to support completion of assignments, and lecturers change each module based on the specialism of the module. The admin team can be slow to respond/react however the lecturers have always been very responsive and supportive
It gives a broad view of the industry, and a holistic view of the financial service industries which opens our mind to interests within the industry that we want to pursue after the apprenticeship.
