I’m a financial analyst who mainly looks at the valuations of different assets in our balance sheet. In my current team, I oversee fund managers and effectively talk to stakeholders about differences in fair values.
I’ve demonstrated my softer skills through presenting to my team on various topics and also building my confidence in the workplace to speak to stakeholders. I’ve learnt technical skills as well such as Excel, Power BI and data modules.
I really enjoy my apprenticeship programme because I enjoy the working and earning aspect as well as the studying. I’m getting opportunities to network with other apprentices and graduates through socials and events as well as other colleagues in my business area.
My programme is around 4 years and there are plenty of rotations that I will be going through to explore different areas of the business within finance. It gives me an opportunity to see what I like and don’t like.
I receive a lot of support from my team members, my line manager, my cohort lead and my apprentice lead. All of whom have helped me with any worries or concerns I may have. They’ve made me feel very comfortable from the first day I joined.
My training provider has been very good at providing support. From the beginning I was given a talent coach who takes me through my current progress on the programme and they are also another person I could speak to if I have worries or concerns.
I am studying for an accounting qualification so I find it is quite relevant to my role which sits in finance. The whole concept of valuing assets stems around discounted cash flows which is something I’ve covered in my studies with my training provider.
There are always social events happening at work whether it be for all colleagues or for the apprentices and grads. There is a calendar that gets filled with upcoming events which I try to get involved in. The most recent one I joined was a silent disco!
Yes
Lloyds Banking Group has been well known for its culture and community-feel. From previous questions I’ve shown how much support I have which is very crucial as an apprentice starting out. There is certainly a more welcoming and kind approach at Lloyds compared to other large banks.
As always be yourself during the application process in interviews and assessments. Always do your research and perhaps find something interesting that you can relate to or speak about to show your passions. Try to show examples of where you’ve used the company values in your life.
