  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Senior ADME/DMPK Scientist. My day to day role involves ADME/DMPK data generation and interpretation within early drug discovery projects, with the aim to guide compounds into pre-clinical and clinical development. This entails independent data analysis and problem solving, departmental and interdepartmental discussion and presentation as well as practical laboratory work.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the broad number of topics the programme covers, supplemented with up to date and relevant information. I have also improved my independent learning and confidence in my presentation skills. However, some of the content does appear to be in the wrong order and some of the module content I am doing alongside my dissertation I could have used prior to writing and planning the dissertation in terms of order of the modules.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Initially my programme was a little disorganised as expectations and face-to-face time with supervisors etc was limited. However - I have received a good level of support in the second half of my programme from my apprenticeship advisor and course tutors. More face-to-face sessions and clarity over expectations has really improved allowing me to focus on the module content.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a lot of support from my direct line manager and colleagues, without whom I would not have been able to get as far through the programme as I have - they are supportive and encouraging in terms of sharing information or knowledge, proof reading my work, allowing me the time and resource to get the most out of the programme.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I have received a good level of support in the second half of my programme from my apprenticeship advisor and course tutors. More face-to-face sessions and clarity over expectations has really improved the smooth running of my apprenticeship. These factors I believe are essential to successfully complete a programme of this depth and scope alongside working.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • My qualification has allowed me to expand my knowledge in my discipline area but also in other related disciplines. I am able to understand data or provide relevant up to date opinions as I am constantly reviewing up to date information/journals/papers. I do feel however that the qualification takes up a lot of time and energy which may take away from time I would typically spend supporting colleagues etc.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • I take part in a few different activities - including group walking challenges, community events/days, visits from food trucks or charity events. As well as pub lunches or department socials. We also have access to sports teams (running/rounders) and the opportunity to spend a day volunteering at local charities.
