I have been given few tasks to complete and those that are given to me feel as though they are filler and add no value. I do not feel I add value to my team and that they put up with me because they have to. Most of my day is filled with nothing even when I ask for tasks they can be done in less than an afternoon.
I have learnt bits about AI but most of it I have forgotten as the learning consists of reading pages or watching videos for hours on end and just never gets learnt properly. I have learnt a bit about working with clients but only through actually working with them and not any training programs.
The program is not what I had hoped and I am trying to fix this working with the university to help them with how they see apprentices and have a meeting with the Dean to discuss this. IBM however have been poor making promises and not following them up and giving us unachievable tasks to do in the meantime.
The program is well structured and has paths for you to follow to get support and having 2 managers is helpful if you find one easier to talk to and more supportive. But the structure doesn’t feel like it is utilised properly and people are still able to fall through the cracks.
I receive minimal support from them even when I said I’m not doing anything they started to set up meetings to help but these went no where with them focusing on other things rather then my issue. They have tried to push me to get involved with training but with no work to use anything I’ve learned on it feels pointless.
There is almost no support from the university any email goes on deaf ears when you ask for something to be sorted you just need to do it yourself as they just don’t do it. I received my student ID after 6 months of being at the university which was very disappointing after I had chased multiple times for it.
It doesn’t the uni work takes place once a week online and is useless I couldn’t tell you I’ve really learnt anything the assignments are useless as they are mostly essays or maths questions which couldn’t be further from any work I’ve done in an office.
There are but many feel like I am not included in them so I find my own outside of work. The communities focus on minorities which I think is amazing for them however the communities I want to be a part of aren’t as active as others so I have continued to play sport for my local club.
No
They have treated me and my fellow apprentices poorly promising the world and giving nothing back. I have had months were I woke up and did nothing and was told to just get on with learning for 5 months this gets boring quickly so my days were quickly filled with me sitting about.
I wouldn’t in its current state the university you would go to is well below par and offers no support and all the work experience you hope you will get you won’t as there aren’t enough roles to go about so you willl spend a lot of time on the bench with no work and if you do get a role you will continue to do nothing while they figure out what to do with you for months.
