  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Along side daily paperwork such as logs, risk-assessment, medication counts etc. and maintaining a clean environment for the young people, my job role is heavily focused on the well-being and safety of the young people in our care and promoting a positive sense of self.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have continually learnt on this job from my own first-hand experiences and also from job-shadowing my colleagues. My rapport with the young people has always innately been within me but learning about legislation and implementing the quality standards into my daily practice has been key skill to learn.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy learning especially in relation to child development, the impacts of trauma and our childhood conditioning, and way in which we can support the young people to develop their life skills and re-program their neural pathways so that they can work to more fulfilling futures and stronger sense of themselves. This programme is helping me develop this knowledge and know how to best put the things I have learnt into practice.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I am struggling with the new layout of the programme down to my own learning style. The support from my tutor however is excellent and there have been lots of accommodations. I am certain that I will adjust to the new structure eventually and I can appreciate the layout of it, I personally just found it overwhelming.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My manager is very accommodating and always takes personal adversities into consideration, happy to support where possible. I feel I can talk to her about anything and she will always create the space for me to share my concerns, troubles and difficulties.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My personal tutor that works with me through the training provider is very supportive and informative in helping me achieve each module and completing the specific units. She helps me understand what I am struggling to grasp and is very reassuring with me.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Knowing that I have someone who is patient with me and will explain things to me, sometimes more than one when I need her to, is really comforting. I often struggle with overwhelm and need support due to my ADHD, and she hasn't once made me feel like a burden for this, or that she is frustrated by my differences which I have felt by other tutors in the past.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • No this is not something that we have implemented from our employer.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Mon Ami to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I feel very valued in my workplace and we have a solid working team which comes from an excellent manager system and adequate training and disciplinary action requirements when bad practice is recognised. I have worked in care homes before with a lack of consideration for the young people so it feels great to be somewhere I am consciously making a difference to others lives along side supportive colleagues.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Mon Ami?
  • To be themselves, not be ashamed of their weakness and use their strengths to their advantage. I would help guide them in the areas they lacked knowledge about, as would the rest of the team.
