In my role as a dental nurse, I assist the clinician I am working with in surgery throughout different treatments, ensuring they have all the equipment and support they need. Meanwhile, I will be comforting the patient to provide a pleasant experience for them, catering to their individual needs. Instrument management is another big factor of my role, where I am responsible for disinfecting my clinical surgery and sterilising any used instruments correctly before restocking.
By having my apprenticeship Tempdent course running alongside my job role, it has allowed me to develop my knowledge and understanding on the different treatments and practices we carry out on a daily basis. Therefore, I can perform better in both my work and education as they correspond nicely. I have also developed in myself as a person, becoming more confident due to the regular interactions with different people each day.
The workload is quite heavy but I feel I receive enough support and am able to ask for help on anything I am struggling with as they are happy to help. This makes the work more enjoyable as it eases the pressure and makes the programme more of a hobby than actual work.
It is organised. There was a clear timetable provided to us at the start of the apprenticeship that lists the schedules webinars, assignments and due dates for all expected coursework. I also receive regular updates with my assessor who keeps me up to date with my work and what is expected in future.
My employer provides me with my required off the job training hours each week to ensure i have enough time to complete my work and meet deadlines. We also have regular catch ups on how the course is going so that my employer is in the loop of what i am currently doing and how I am feeling about it all so she can support me.
There are endless handouts and supporting information sites provided to us through the the platform to make certain we can carry out our own independent research to gain more information on the topic at hand. There are multiple people we can also get in touch with for certain issues like support on the coursework, no one has ever failed to help me.
I have a better knowledge of all aspects of the job from my qualification, like understanding the different materials and instruments so that I can provide a better support and assistance to my clinician throughout the working day instead of having to question what they are needing.
There aren't many extra activities but as a group we like to plan to do things outside of work together as we all get along nicely. There are systems in place for us to organise team building days where our employer will fund a certain amount or sponsored events that we can partake in together.

The online learning provided by Tempdent has aided me a lot in my dental nurse apprenticeship, with a highly knowledgeable team that always seem happy to support the learners in their progression, I feel confident that they will help me pass my qualification. I would recommend as it would be great for others to experience the same level of support and encouragement for their career.
Always ask for help if you are struggling and don't be afraid to get involved during webinars. The workload may seem difficult but with the right advice, it can be made simple as all the information is provided by Tempdent training.
