My role involves designing minor works and bigger schemes to improve the Highway Network for the local authority. My work is varied and includes traffic calming measures, signing, road safety and other aspects. I get to visit sites to get measurements to inform my design, as well as visiting live construction sites to ensure that scheme construction meets the specifications of my designs.
I am developing my presentation, public speaking and innovation skills through my involvement with the innovations and efficiency group.
I enjoy my programme very much and have a lot of support at work to help me learn, improve and balance work and studies.
My programme is fairly well structured, although there have been instances due to staff absence at University, where content delivery has been poor.
I receive a lot of support from my employer. I have regular check ins with an emerging talent advisor, and other mentors who guide me in my professional development and my line manager is very supportive of my professional development.
There is sufficient support from my training provider in the form of academic mentoring and pastoral support, however, at times, feedback from exams and assignments has not been thorough enough to aid my learning.
My qualification provides me with knowledge and understanding of a broad range of engineering topics and applications which is building my understanding of the industry, as well as the importance of my own role.
There are some networking events which I have found very helpful. However, more social activities would be of interest.
