I am a laboratory scientist apprentice. My role involves carrying out lab tasks, personal development activities and learning the science behind my specialist area.
I have developed my confidence alot since starting my apprenticeship due to meeting so many new people all the time. I have seen the importance of teamwork to get jobs done on time and as efficiently as we can. Being able to adjust to the wide variety of people I work with
I love my programme. There are so many opportunities given to me within my role, department and the company as a whole that allows me to develop in so many different ways. This was definitely the right decision for me. I have learnt so much in so few months by just being involved in the working environment.
My apprenticeship programme is well structured. There is a clear end goal for me to work towards and route to make that possible.
I receive lots of support from my employer from so many people in the company not just my mentor and manager. I am provided with support regarding so many of my activities, university and my specialist areas within my job.
My training provider are good at providing support. Most of the time they reply very quickly to emails even out of normal working hours. They really show that they want everybody to be the best the can be and do well.
My qualification allows me to learn the background chemistry knowledge that helps me understand the chemistry in my specialised area. It also allows me to develop many other skills that I can use within my role such as reading and writing reports and giving presentations.
There are so many extra-curricular activities to get involved in within work. We have a social society which organises many social events in and out of work. I am now a member of this society which is helping me develop my organisation skills. We have recently had a campus netball tournament and there are many more professional networking events within departments and employee resource groups.
