Supporting placement students to secure a placement for their third year. Carrying out placement CV checks on a 1-1 basis. Giving advice and guidance regarding placements and the job market. Doing placement drop ins and pop ups. Liaising with academic staff within the schools that we manage.
Currently I am only 4 months into the programme, so a lot of what I have done has been theoretical. So I have found lots of ways of incorporating certain career theories into my current role (for example, finding different ways to approach the 1-1 interactions with students).
I am enjoying it so far. A lot of it has been theoretical so I have been working through online modules during my off the job training day. I have really benefited from interacting with other career practitioners on the same course as me.
I have found the programme to be very well structured. We have been given a great overview at the start of the course, of what to expect, and how it will be structured. We have been very clear deadlines and a timeline of when everything will happen.
So far I have had great support from my employer. Both supervisor and mentor have been very involved and I know that I will be given opportunities to gain all the experience that I need. And they have been great about making sure I have my apprenticeship day set aside each week.
I have also received great support from my training provider. We were assigned a tutor right from the start. I have had my first 12 week review, and always get very quick responses to any email queries. They have also organised an online learning circle, enabling us to share ideas.
Again, I am only 4 months in, but everything I am learning is relevant to my current role working with placement students. It's creating a great toolbox for me to draw from, and is enabling me to be more confident speaking with students, knowing that what I am telling them is backed up by career theory.
There is the potential to attend an industry conference that is coming up in September. I also attend quarterly online 'hubs' where we discuss current topics relating to work based placements.
Yes
Because even though I was not even a year into working at the university, already my manager was encouraging me to go for the apprenticeship. So I can see that they invest in their employees. And everyone is very willing to help me with advice or opportunities for new experiences.
