I am a support worker for learning disabilities and mental health services, working in residential group homes.
I have found the NVQ4 with Paragon absolutely beneficial to my job role, I have grown I'm confidence, I have expanded my knowledge of laws and how social care settings work at their best. It has made the job more rewarding having support from my tutor.
I have enjoyed the programme so much, I want to go on and do further study to qualify as a social worker.
Very well organised through Teams meetings. My tutor has been reliable and punctual, as well as being flexible and understanding about when we can meet due to my full worksheet schedule. Approachable and professional manner of communication from my tutor.
Hardly any actually. An agreement was made at the beginning that I would have work hours set aside in my week to complete NVQ tasks. This has not happened. I have completed all my work in my own time. I have not had check-ins from management about how I am progressing and nobody seems interested that I am doing this level l. I have asked for specific info from other areas in the organisation and been denied access to communication.
My named tutor is the direct contact for the training provider, she has been so supportive and has even given me a character reference for a job application. She is available through texts and email whenever needed.
Having really strong knowledge on legislation, and practice with communication styles, has helped me develop to become the strongest advocate when representing the people I support.
No.
No
Being in the process of swapping to a new employer where I am paid a higher more appropriate wage for the same role, and there is a strong positive team spirit, I would not recommend Mencap.
Look at other service providers in the area first. Understand that Mencap are closing supported living services to save money whilst people at the High end of the organisation receive very large salaries. The structure of Mencap seems unstable with lots of executive job changes, and I just really don't think it's the best place to work any more.
