I am supposed to learn all the various methods, techniques and procedures of which are required to fulfil my role as a technician, instead I find myself steam cleaning 2-3 days a week, often driving for parts or Valeting trucks for the Sales department.
Yes, I’ve learnt the basics however very rarely get to apply them in the workshop
Very little, I enjoy the feeling relief and pride when learning or getting through hard/tough jobs, however I am not given these opportunities nearly enough.
I am not sure as many other colleagues have a good understanding of what needs doing, however I did not have a mentor and have had almost no guidance as to what needs doing during this time, or been given notice near the deadlines that things need doing.
Very little, I have never had a review with my manager
Very little, my training coach has very little use to me and very rarely helps when I have my own questions/problems.
The tutors at the City Of Bristol collage are great teachers, however I rarely get the chance to use these skills in the workplace
I have collected Christmas trees for a local charity
No
The stress I have been consumed in by the lack of support is something I simply would not wish for a friend to endure, I love this trade and have much love for the people I work with, but this is not enough to compensate for the lack of guidance.
Be extremely stern in asking for what you need, do not expect help. Always ask questions and do your absolute best in ever task you are given, and do not let the lack of recognition/appreciation deter you from your goal.
