  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role is to look after and care for nursery aged children, I teach, nurture, play with, comfort and provide food for them. I make sure they are safe and in an environment that is appropriate, supportive and respectful of them and their beliefs. I provide awe and wonder to the children that may not have the same experiences as their friends. I plan activities, take the register, carry out activities in groups and one to one, I help children to write, learn their name, get changed and use the toilet independently. I use a wide vocabulary through conversations and reading books to help the children expand their speech.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have developed existing skills through training internally and externally for safeguarding, maths, phonics, science, policies and procedures, first aid and best practice. I have learnt new skills from training updates/refreshers and from my colleagues by asking for their advice and drawing from their experiences and work ethic to better myself.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoyed my programme, I was extremely nervous at first but once I understood what was expected of me, I calmed down and took it one step at a time to achieve each section presented to me and found it quite enjoyable to complete all the tasks, watching my progress bar move up.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I think the programme is very well organised and structured, all the staff members I came in contact with were kind, friendly, helpful and supportive, they all knew their role well and made me feel comfortable. Once I was shown how to use onefile it was easy to navigate around and do what I needed to do. Webinars that I attended were well put together and made the learning easier to understand as you are not alone jus researching, you have support from the others who attend as well as the lead plus you can take more detailed notes to help with the follow up task and your work.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I received maximum support from my employer, all meetings were agreed in advance to make sure we had staff if needed cover for my absence to either do observations or professional discussions with my tutor and discuss the next part. They would help with any information I needed regarding other job roles around the school and sent me on training courses if and when I needed them. I was encouraged and supported which made me push myself more.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I received full support from everyone I was in contact with, nothing was too big or too small. My tutor was amazing she was there for me whenever I needed her for support and clarification of terms used and the way some things are worded, she was just so kind and caring, pushing me to do my best all the time.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are a few things throughout the year where we all come together and have a catch up with colleagues we don’t tend to see very often because of working, we have staff BBQs, we partner up and join in with the summer fete, we go to different schools for training purposes and vise versa so each school in the trust will take it in turns to host and we all come together to show our practises and development.
