  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • on a Monday I do my paperwork for college this includes: math, further math, mechanical principles, communications of technicians, and materials. Tuesday to Thursday you will be in the training workshop working over 10 different practical units. These include: milling, turning, business, PLC, fluid power, welding, mechanical, electrical, electronics, and hand fitting. and Friday can either be more practical training, or you will be doing your paperwork for each unit.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • As I have done a level 3 qualification in the past most of what I am doing now is very familiar. Some things have been different to my previous work. I have gained more experience in some of the workshop units and with the college work upstairs. some of it is new to me and I have learned more than previously. However the refresher on any work I have done might be very helpful.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I fairly highly enjoy the program, this is do to all the exciting opportunities that are presented and the learning that I am going through. However there is one aspect I dislike, that is doing all of the units I have passed in the past again. I enjoyed all the units the first time I did them, but doing some all over again when they are very similar can be a little frustrating as I know I have already completed those units and passed. If I could not retake them all and miss out 1 or 2 that I done in the past it would be great as it would give me time to complete all the paperwork efficiently

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The program was structured very well at the beginning, we had been given the time tables for when we will be doing each rotation of units in the workshop and how long they lasted and who with. However, due to some lecturers leaving near the start the schedule had to be changed which has made it a little messy, I understand it is not the providers fault but it has made it more difficult. They have done their best to organize and sort out getting new lecturers for us.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a lot of support from the employer, if there are any concerns they do their best to get me answers or organize any support I need. They already provide a great amount of support weekly. As we have a weekly meeting that allows us to raise any concerns and get answers to previous concerns.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • You receive a fair amount of support, they try their best to help in any way possible. If they cannot get an answer for you, they will contact anyone who they think will be able to help, or ask around until someone is found and direct them to you to get the support needed.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel as if there is only 3 practical units that will help me in my future role, however the other units could still be helpful. I know my job role well and it is very unlikely I will need most of the units from downstairs, commonly at least. As they are more fit for the other level 3 position.

If you do well within the apprenticeship you can qualify to be on the move program. this is where you are given the opportunity to explore other BMW sites all over the world.
