I am a quantity surveying apprentice. My role at the moment revolves around creating scopes of works (and the documents that go with it), placing purchase orders as well as other forms of payments and completing any other task in order to support the team.
I have learnt how to use excel, use blue beam, read building plans, navigate the shared files systems, present myself and information in meetings/ to my team, time management and organisation and much more.
I am enjoying it so far.
My day at work is structured. Collage has not been so structured, but this is due to a change in tutors and so teaching styles and expectations.
I have received lots of support from my employer, with a mentor and frequent site walks and learning opportunities
So far the training provider has been not as helpful as they could be. But as said before this is mainly due to the change in tutors and the lack of clarity that comes with this.
The qualification that I am working towards will allow me to have a more well rounded understanding of the construction industry, what impacts my role and the part I have to play.
There are apprenticeship and graduate training/ social events that I have been attending
Yes
Berkeley has lots of opportunities in a wide variety of roles. They offer support to graduates and apprentices and facilitate learning and growth .
Do not be afraid to not know all the answers. Ask questions, learn and be confident.
