  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I log on a 8.45am and check my Emails. Then, we have a team meeting at 09.30am where we can engage with our Team Leader and ask any necessary questions - on Friday's we sometimes have 'Energisers', such as a quiz or a game to boost team connectivity and motivation. After the morning meeting, our tasks for the day are assigned to us, then we work the rest of the day completing them. As it is a degree apprenticeship, our 'University Day' is Thursday where we work collaboratively with other PwC apprentices, receive quality teaching from a lecturer and complete our assignment. The 'University Day' runs from 9.30am to 4pm, with a lunch and plenty of coffee breaks in between.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • All of our University assignments work hand in hand with the work completed at PwC. This has helped me learn more about the organisation I work for and myself with assignments and lectures touching on topics, such as team dynamics and personal development. Many believe that in Higher Level Apprenticeships, you are 'thrown in the deep end', however this was far from the case with PwC. We all received 8 weeks of training and further training upon joining a team. Furthermore, all apprentices have access to a career coach where we have monthly meetings discussing wellbeing, work performance and more. Finally, every apprentice was assigned a 'buddy' (an apprentice in the year above) for support and guidance which definitely helped ease the nerves upon joining the company as I had someone my age to talk to.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I love every aspect of this programme. The support offered from day one of joining has been incredible. It is clear to see that PwC cares a great deal about their apprentices.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • We have specific modules for completion and before the assignment deadline we have a 'reading day' allowing us to have the whole day to work on our project without worrying about work. We know what is expected of us, so there are never any surprised - everything is very well organised.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • We have a career coach which we meet with monthly and a 'buddy' assigned to us upon joining which is amazing. My Team Leader is always available to contact throughout the day if I have any concerns. The support provided is a 10/10 from me.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Lecturers are always willing to answer questions or look at assignment drafts which is incredibly helpful. We also have access to everything a 'normal' (full-time) student would have, meaning we don't miss out on any of the experiences. We can join societies and sport clubs just like other students. The University also set up an 'Apprenticeship Society' which allows us to enjoy activities and events at times that suit us (after working hours) where we can network with apprentices from all other NI.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Like I said before the assignments and lectures work hand in hand with the work completed, perfectly equipping apprentices for life at PwC.

    8/10

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are always volunteering opportunities to take part in at PwC, such as charity showcases. There is the Ulster University Apprenticeship Society and we have access to all societies at the University. Furthermore, we can attend most in-office events too.

  • 9a. Would you recommend PwC to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I have grown so much as a person since joining PwC and really enjoyed my time here since joining in September 2023. I would definitely recommend this to a friend!

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to PwC?
  • Research the company and learn as much as you can about it by looking at the website for example. Watch YouTube videos and read reviews on other people's experiences. Engage with PwC by following them on social media and LinkedIn.
