  • Supported living home support work and also community support work. No personal care involved but supporting individuals to become or maintain their independence. Can be anything from shopping ITT cooking taking to social events

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes I have learned a lot as I had not previously worked in support work. The training has been excellent and I have been given the opportunity to do Apprenticeship which has been very helpful and educational

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy it very much due to the variety of content and diversity of measuring progress in different ways

  • Very well structured

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • they give me time to do the Apprenticeship work and are supportive at supervision meetings too

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • As much as I feel that I need most of the time although have had sessions cancelled and date confused so communication could be better at times

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • It definitely helps and some of the modules are more relevant than others. Some more care based than support based but I understand that is the nature of the course

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes we have social events Pub Quiz and Christmas party or opportunity to have team meetings too

  • 9a. Would you recommend Step One to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • Because I really feel part of a team and get plenty if support and guidance if it is required. The management team are also very accessible and caring and the pay is ok. I feel like all my colleagues really care but also nice people to socialise with


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Step One?
  • Go for it, if you want to work in support and make a difference to other people's lives you will be looked after and feel fulfilled
